Toronto police officer Christopher Hominuk has gone unpunished — UPDATE: See comments from Toronto Police below — for committing the crime of torture. Torture, according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture is: “…any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession… when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity.” In spite of damning video evidence that clearly shows he tortured Canadian citizens, Hominuk was allowed to plead guilty to a farcically minimized charge that insults the Canadian justice system and puts innocent Canadian citizens in danger going forward. In light of the Col. Russell Williams psychopath infiltration fiasco, the question begs: how many other psychopaths are active within our army and police forces? The Hominuk case – and every other case of documented police brutality – should remain open until the following issues are addressed by independent investigators: 1. How often has Toronto Police Service officer Chris Hominuk been abusing and torturing prisoners during his 13 year career? Any warning signs of previous psychopathic behavior? 2.
