Durign harsh winter conditions in Dryden, Ontario, a passenger plane crashes into trees 962 metres beyond the end of the runway moments after takeoff. Three years later, this scenario repeats itself with the identical aircraft model on a USAir flight, as it plunges into Flushing Bay upon takeoff from LaGuardia Airport. Poor safety practices, a design flaw with the wings of the Fokker F28, and ineffective de-icing mechanisms lead to ice buildup on the wings of the aircraft in each incident, causing both aircraft to crash.
